Celebrate Beethoven and Brahms

Gernot Winischhofer, Violin

Beethoven wrote the violin concerto in 1806 for his colleague Franz Clement, a leading violinist of the day: it was later revived and performed by violinist Joseph Joachim and conducted by Felix Mendelssohn. The joyfulness of Brahms’s Second Symphony, composed during a visit to the Austrian Alps, has been compared to the pastoral mood of Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony.
